I was reading about how to update the game, and it said that you have to download the new version, which replaces the old one. Does that mean you lose all your saved games? Is there a way to save them if you do? Will saves from older versions of the game even work with newer updates?
Also, can the town leader character that you create at the beginning of the game die? If so, does that affect gameplay in any way? Does a different citizen become town leader that you then have control of or do you just make a new one? If they are just replaced, does a new leader need to be elected by the citizens or do you get to select them from your existing people?

There are so many huge code changes between versions that we can't preserve the save data at the moment. However, when you download the latest version, it won't delete the old version or your old saves, so you can keep playing the old version and only start using the new one when you're ready to make a new town/save. - Your town leader is immortal for the time being, so you don't need to worry about being overthrown/murdered.
