Countdown to Pre-Alpha Update 0.0.8...
I thought I’d make a quick post to keep people updated on how close pre-alpha version 0.0.8 is to being available for all players (and the latest dev blog)
There’s a lot of bugs to sort before we can release because of the total redo of the citizen’s pathfinding abilities. As you can guess, how a citizen gets from point A to point B affects everything and it caused a number of problems which we'll still trying to mop up. But we’re getting there, solving issues every day and making good progress.
As of Tuesday the 19th December there are: 2 issues left to fix before we can release, (down from6, 16, 24).
As always, when that number hits 0 we will release. The goal is definitely to have it out before Christmas. I personally can’t wait to get this version out as there’s been many improvements that will make the game more enjoyable to play. Not to mention a ton of graphical updates. If you haven’t seen the patch notes for the version they’re here.
Early Access Release Plans:
As you can guess, due to the extra work required with this pathfinding upgrade, there’s no way we’ll be able to launch on Steam in 2017 so apologies to anybody who was still holding out a vague hope for that.
Our goal has always been to launch on Steam whenever version 0.0.10 is done. When that happens though is a moving target. Right now version 0.0.8 is nearly done. We’ll then start on version 0.0.9, which will be a nice gameplay focused update to give players a lot more to do. Then lastly, version 0.0.10 will be a tiny update to integrate the game with Steam.
This should mean we hit Steam early 2018, after about 3 years development work on Atomic Society, which seems like a fitting time! We're not redoing anymore core systems before Steam so I'm slightly optimistic about us getting all that done before Spring 2018.
Thanks to everybody who’s been waiting for the game’s wider release. I hope it will be worth it when the time comes. Obviously Steam is just the beginning and many more updates will come during the Early Access phase.
