"Helping" with a construction prevents progress

Okay, I tried this a few times and I am pretty sure when I go to a construction site to "help out" with the building progress, nothing happens. When the the builders arrive, the counter stays at 0%. When I manually leave the construction site after that, they immediately start to build and the counter continues.

Did another builder arrive shortly before the construction started?

When construction is started and there are a max of 4 builders (excluding the town leader), 3 of the builders will go to the construction site, and the other builder will go to storage, and get the required materials. Construction does not start until the builder who has the building materials has arrived.

I thought I was the first at the site, but it was odd how the progress starts exactly the moment I leave the site. Even waited a bit so everyone who I thought is a builder arrives there. I think the builders gather, and when I leave the building starts. I'm going to test that a few more times under different circumstances.

Edit: Okay nevermind, seems to work now. Maybe I left at just the right moment before
