Hi! I saw the pre-alpha teaser today and just one thing bothered me about it. imgur.com/TolzaY0imgur.com/wB896tjIt looks weird for the buildings to be a) on a grid and b) spaced so far apart. Please allow plots to build closer together, and with looser, more organic placement. Best of luck with the game! Looking forward to trying it!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Thanks for raising the concern! There is more freedom to place buildings than it might appear. That icy town in the trailer was deliberately arranged in a grid-like way (by me). You can place structures anywhere within about 5 meters of something else when playing. Here's a random screenshot I had that helps show that better... We need to leave some space between buildings as they flatten the ground when placed. Atomic Society is unique for a 3D city builder in letting you build on steep hillsides. If we didn't keep a gap, you'd place one building and its nearest neighbour would have its foundations lowered. It should look better though when the citizens start forming pathways naturally over time (that's a feature for a while off yet, but it's on the cards). Footpaths will help fill in the gaps.

Been tinkering with this today as someone else mentioned it to me. The way Nick has coded the game means a lot of it is flexible, so it wasn't hard to tweak. I was able to get down the minimum spacing require between buildings by 1/3. I can now build structures as close to each other as this. Don't think we can make it much narrower than that or there won't be room for paths later on! I'll have to keep my eye on it to make sure it doesn't cause bugs on hilly maps but fingers you'll be able to build more compact towns in 0.0.6.
