Absolutely adore the soundtrack, was interested to read in the blog about your man's synthesizer. am a big fan of early German group Tangerine Dream. Their early stuff from the 70's optimises the feeling of the game especially an album called Phaedra. I can imagine the title track as a busy city that suddenly ends in some sort of catastrophe and the remainder of the track is the aftermath and slow rebuild. Sorry to ramble on. Tangerine Dream are definitely in the inspirational pile of ambient music that feeds us. I'm well aware of that album.
This is old now, but before we even started making the game when I was having early discussions with the composer I put together this list of music as a guide for him. You might enjoy it:
