So, I was playing Fallout 4 and they have a relatively good mechanic for farming. Not to mention there are farms around in the game's world. While watching the videos for the game the closest thing I saw to this was a watering hole. I wanted to know how farming is going to work in the game. I was also thinking that you could randomly spawn animals like cows and chickens and stuff around abandoned buildings. You would have to build a specialized building with a large fenced in area that you could lead the animals to and farm them. You could have certain buildings for using cows for their meat and another for milking the cows. You could also add you own special animals in like infused cows and goats, or giant horses that you could use for building stuff. If you added this, you could literatly run away with the idea and make the game something more then any other post-apocalyptic game! Another thing is mutant plants. You could have farms for them, or randomly spawned harmful plants that shoot poison at your people. Like I said, you could run away with this idea!

There is one farm in the game at the moment, a greenhouse (basically a polytunnel).
Farming was a bit of a challenge. We didn't want to have the boring medieval style thing of putting down farms, but humans would surely still try and farm after the apocalypse. But we have levels set in extreme weather environments ranging from frozen tundras to boiling deserts. How could we have a farm? Based on research, it turns out you can grow an awful lot with some transparent plastic even in extreme conditions.
Farming is automatic once you make it. The thing about Atomic Society is not that your buildings require management but your workers do. Don't worry about your crops, worry about your farmers.
There is also a livestock farm building at the moment, which is slower but provides more satisfying food. We intend to add in that the downside of it is that the survivors aren't very good at raising radioactive animals, and so there is some chance of failure and two-headed calves dying. Or something like that. Right now it just makes meat.
We're trying to keep to real science on the effects of radiation, hence no mutants, toxic plants etc (though as a Fallout fan - I do think they're cool!). This is a game more about how real people would live after a nuclear war.
Villagers do have stats already, hunger, thirst etc. Keeping them full up is a big part of the game.

That's awesome! I'm glad your sticking with science, that'll make the game evermore realistic!
