I'm new to the game and I just found it as a GreenLite on Steam but I think that it would be really cool if while you were exploring there would be different biomes for you to find and explore. Biomes like: Radioactive Swamps Green Mountains(tallish mountain ranges that glow green at the top) Winterlands(places where ash floats down from the sky like a volcano erupted) Abandoned small cities with like zombies and stuff in them Radioactive Woods(woods that don't have any leaves and at night the trees themselves glow) Shores(Some with radioactive water and others with semi pure water) etc. I think these would add so much to the game and it would add another reason to explore!

Hi! Thanks for the suggestions (and congratulations on being the first person to make a post on the forum who doesn't work on the team!
Mountains that glow green at the top? That's a new one. Is that supposed to be radiation?
Randomised radiation areas and/or storms are on the things to consider list at the moment. There are shores already. There are abandoned villages I guess (a few buildings here and there), no zombies though!
Love the idea of falling ash. Unfortunately most of this stuff is cosmetic prettiness stuff and won't get added in for a while. :-)

Yay! I made history today! But yeah, the glowing tops of the mountains are suppose to be radiation, to kinda give it the feel like it's still fresh in the air. I saw that there were abandoned villages, but what I meant was more packed towns were you have abandoned buildings in close proximity to each other. Yeah the falling ash was just for aesthetic. I just though it would be cool if you had to go far in the map and enter a nuclear wonderland! Also, with the idea of certain places having certain cosmetics like falling ash, you guys could make missions for something to retrieve there. Like for instance, a couple of your people are sick and they need a certain kind of medicine that you don't have and the only place to get it is in the ash falling biome. Also, I was watching one of the videos for the game and I think that raids and stuff would add so much to the game! It would also be cool if you could knock one of the raiders out and keep him as a prisoner to try and flip him to be a citizen of your town. If you need reference, it's a feature in RimWorld which is another video game. rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Prisoner

Thumbs up on all of Sneaky's suggestions except the zombies. Mutants maybe?
State of Decay has a really interesting mechanic which requires you, once having scavenged most of the resources on the map, to select a few members to move on to a new map. It would be interesting if you were able to do something similar, while still having access to trade with previous settlements. Creating a trade route and economy in which certain resources are only (or mostly) available in certain maps.
I'm offering suggestions without regard to complexity because I have absolutely no idea what kind of programming is required. Just throwing out what I think are fun ideas.

State of Decay is one my favourite games (I was re-playing it last night in fact) That is a good idea about adding in some Breakdown functionality at a later point in development. Especially as we probably won't be able to afford adding a proper campaign. I'll add it to the list of possible ideas for the distant future.
Zombies/mutants/raiders if they came at all would be in same kind of optional expansion pack I imagine (I really don't know at this stage) for players who want a more combative experience. The vanilla game won't have external threats (just internal threats from your own populace.)
Thanks for the suggestions. Obviously we're a tiny team and the more complex an idea is the less likely it is to see the light of day but I always think it's better to throw out fun ideas regardless of complexity as sometimes they strike gold!
